Volume 2 2006

risky business
Dear George,
The response to the first ezine was fantastic! And by "fantastic", what I mean is that there were only eleven complaints.

Risking all that goodwill, here is volume two.

I considered waiting another week, but I couldn't pass up making fun of the Oscars.

So, enjoy and forward this to your friends!

Oscar Fever

I don’t know about you, but I’m just now getting over a bout of Oscar Fever. Every year we watch the broadcast with friends and try to guess which celebrity will be the first to fall out of their dress. This year’s pick: Jake Gyllenhaal.

In trying to predict Oscar winners, Mrs. Malarkey and I are at a definite disadvantage in that we haven’t seen any of the nominated movies. We wait for the DVD so that we can use our amazing new home theater. It’s just like going to the movies. It even came with a guy to sit behind us, kick our chairs and talk on a cell phone.

However, the fact that I haven’t seen the films in no way stops me from recapping what I suspect they are about.

Brokeback Mountain-- A courageous epic that takes Hollywood to a place they’ve never been before: camping. Oscar winning director, Ang Lee, is already starting on his next politically correct western, “Shootout at the I’m Okay, You’re Okay Corral.

Crash-- Award winning story tackling racism and the difficulties of getting an insurance adjuster to call you back.

Capote-- The moving tale of a man deeply in need of a throat lozenge.

Good Night and Good Luck-- George Clooney’s movie about the right- wing conspiracy to control America. Not to be confused with “Syriana”, Clooney’s movie about a right-wing conspiracy to control the world. And completely different from “Confessions of a Dangerous Mind”, Clooney’s movie about a right-wing conspiracy to control the Gong Show.

Munich-- Steven Spielberg’s movie about a right- wing conspiracy to control George Clooney.

And a long overdue award went to “It’s Hard Out Here For a Pimp” for Best Song. After years of Hollywood lauding the plight of union workers, it’s nice to see them acknowledge the challenges of management.

An Indian casino in Oklahoma refused to pay out $11 million, claiming that a slot machine malfunctioned. The winner, who felt that he had been cheated out of a payday that was rightly his, complained “Where did American Indians ever learn to take other peoples' property?!”

Fox is pitching a new game show for out of work General Motors executives called "American Idle."

Despite a new book with hundreds of interviews, thousands of documents and two years of exhaustive research, Barry Bonds is sticking to his story: "I never bet on Pete Rose."
When asked if "Roid Rage" might explain his snippy, pouty, disagreeable behavior, Bonds defended himself with, "Hey, I was a jerk way before I went on the juice."

In central Texas, sheriff’s deputies are pulling over “good” drivers and giving them free tickets to the local Round Rock Express baseball games. The system is working so well that police in New York are considering pulling over “bad” drivers and forcing them to take Knicks tickets.

Experts warn that bird flu could reach the US in six months. Unless the birds are flying Northwest Airlines, then it could be a year.

Michael Jackson is back in California amid rumors of dire financial trouble. Apparently, Neverland has been shut down, employees are unpaid and Jackson is behind three payments on his face.

Concern about Hollywood’s anorexic leading ladies has inspired the release of Matthew McConaughey’s new documentary, “Failure to Lunch.”

Stay tuned for more fun. And don't be afraid to forward this to a friend. That'll teach 'em!
